Candle information

I. Common aesthetic imperfections of soy wax scented candles

Have you purchased a natural soy wax candle and noticed that it doesn't look perfect? Perhaps you noticed small color variations that appeared over time or a slightly uneven surface after you blew out the wick.

Have you wondered if this is normal? Yes, it is absolutely normal and does not affect the aroma or quality of the candle in any way. The only aspect affected is the visual aspect.

To provide you with more clarity, we have prepared a list of the most common aesthetic imperfections that can occur in natural soy wax candles. It is important to know that these do not affect the burning or the fragrance of the candle.

1. Frosting effect

The frost effect is manifested by the appearance of white crystals on the surface of the candle.

This is a natural phenomenon of vegetable wax, occurring when the wax tries to return to its original state.

In fact, this effect is a sign that the candle is made largely or even entirely from vegetable wax.

2. Air bubbles (wet spots)

Air bubbles may appear on the side surfaces of the candles.

These form when the wax contracts due to temperature differences during pouring, causing the wax to pull away from the edges of the container.

3. Uneven surface after firing

After burning and solidifying, a soy wax candle may have an uneven surface.

This phenomenon is completely normal and occurs due to the uneven cooling of the melted wax after the candle is extinguished.

4. The candle turns yellow over time

Yellowing of the wax can occur when certain perfumes contain natural flavors, such as vanilla or cinnamon.

The color of the candle can be influenced by natural or artificial light, similar to how white fabrics yellow over time.

Perfumes with a high vanillin content or citrus scents can cause wax to yellow in as little as 24 hours, while those with low amounts of vanillin or floral scents can cause this effect gradually over a longer period of time.

Conclusion

As you can see, you have no reason to worry – these imperfections are completely natural and normal. Just as every person is unique and imperfect, so is soy wax, and this is part of its charm.

II. Maintenance guide for scented soy wax candles

Behind Lumius scented candles lies a lot of work, dedication and passion, all with one goal: to offer you the highest quality products. However, there is one more essential element – how to make sure you enjoy every moment of them to the fullest?

In order for your scented candles to fully reveal their captivating aroma and create that relaxing atmosphere through their pleasant light, we have prepared a special maintenance guide that will help you use them in the most efficient way possible:

Candle storage

  • Suitable place: Store candles in a cool, dark, and dry space, making sure they have their lids on to protect them.
  • Use promptly: Avoid storing them for too long, as this can affect the fragrance and appearance. Use them within a reasonable time after purchase to enjoy the best experience they can offer.

Before ignition

  • Preparing the place: Place the candle on a flat, stable, heat-resistant surface.
  • Safety: Make sure the candle is placed in a safe place, away from drafts, flammable materials, pets and children. Never leave a burning candle unattended.
  • Matching the space: Choose a candle that is the right size for the room it will be used in. For larger rooms, opt for a larger candle or multiple candles placed at least 2 inches (5 cm) apart. Keep in mind that open windows and doors can disperse the scent, reducing its intensity.
  • Wick care: Before each lighting, trim the wick to approximately 5 mm using a wick cutter or nail clipper. This helps to burn more evenly and prevents smoke formation.

The first lighting of a candle

  • Optimal duration: When first lighting, let the candle burn for 2 to 4 hours . This allows the melted wax to reach the edges of the container, preventing a tunnel from forming. However, do not leave the candle burning for more than 4 hours to avoid the risk of the container cracking.
  • Initial flame: The flame may be smaller than usual or flicker in the first few minutes. In this case, do not extinguish the candle before 2 hours - the burning will regulate naturally.

During combustion

  • Never leave candles burning unattended or while you are sleeping.
  • Let the candle burn until the melted wax reaches the edges of the container (about 30-90 minutes), but no more than 4 hours.
  • Never move a burning candle.
  • Do not apply candle wax to skin or animals.
  • Avoid spraying household products or room sprays near the candle.
  • If you notice that the flame is too large, flickers frequently or emits smoke, extinguish the candle, shorten the wick to approximately 5mm and relight it if necessary.
  • If the wick approaches the wall of the container, immediately extinguish the flame, wait 5-15 minutes, then center the wick with tweezers and let the wax harden completely.
  • If after a while the scent disappears, leave the room for a few minutes, come back and you will smell the scent stronger again.
  • Do not let the candle burn all the way to the bottom of the container. Extinguish it when there is 5-10 mm of wax left to prevent the container from cracking.

Extinguishing the candle

  • Never blow directly into a flame or use water to extinguish a candle.
  • Use a candle snuffer or the lid to extinguish it. Do not move the candle and leave it uncovered until the wax hardens completely, then cover it with the lid.

Reuse or recycle the container

  • If you want to recycle the container, put it in the freezer for 1-2 hours, then remove as much wax as possible. Clean it with warm (not boiling) water and soap.
  • Do not throw melted wax down the sink or toilet.
